The Sixth Street Museum District will debut the exhibition Harlem Speaks on Saturday, September 28th from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Mobile Street Renaissance Festival. Harlem Speaks explores the vibrant world of Harlem during its golden age by bringing to life the dynamic voices and transformative contributions of notable Harlem Renaissance figures.
The exhibition features colorful panels, meticulously designed to highlight key figures who shaped the revolutionary cultural movement. From the literary brilliance of Langston Hughes to the musical genius of Duke Ellington, each panel in Harlem Speaks offers a window into the lives of 16 iconic artists, writers, politicians, and thinkers. Through a blend of striking visuals and compelling narratives, visitors will journey through the rich tapestry of Harlem’s artistic and intellectual explosion.
Harlem Speaks also includes an audio tour. As visitors navigate the panels, the audio tour provides an intimate encounter with the era’s influential voices as they explain their personal stories in their own voices, reflect on their groundbreaking work, and gain deeper insights into the impact of their contributions on both Harlem and the broader cultural landscape.
The Harlem Speaks Exhibition will be located in the Historic Eureka School and will be open Thursdays and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. from Saturday, September 28th – Saturday, November 2nd. There is no charge to enjoy Harlem Speaks.
