Partners for the Arts (PFTA) presents the annual Pops in the Park concert, a showcase of popular music performed by The University of Southern Mississippi’s Symphonic Winds.
The Symphonic Winds is a distinguished ensemble known for its versatility and commitment to excellence in wind band performance. Performing a wide range of musical styles, the ensemble places a strong emphasis on contemporary literature composed specifically for the collegiate level. It serves as a vital artistic outlet for both music majors and non-music majors who seek a serious and enriching musical experience. In recent seasons, the Symphonic Winds has premiered new works by esteemed composers Luigi Zaninelli and James David, further reinforcing its role as a forward-thinking ensemble at the forefront of wind band innovation. The group is currently under the direction of Dr. Travis Higa.
